Our Story

Through the shared vision of its founders, GAP Events was formed in Melbourne in 1997 under the name Green Ant to do something artistic, unique and independent with the rising trance music and psychedelic techno scene.

Producing the popular Full Moon Parties and establishing the iconic Green Ant record label, the idea extended to a 4-day music festival. The first Rainbow Serpent Festival was held just outside of Daylesford in 1998.

Rainbow soon found its home in the Pyrenees Shire, growing into a full music, arts, lifestyle and cultural festival with a strong First Nations program.

The rapid success of Rainbow Serpent Festival meant that it became the sole focus of the organisation, which was renamed to GAP Events and employs thousands of event workers, musicians and artists.

Rainbow Serpent Festival is frequently on the global list of must see music festivals, attracting over 20,000 patrons from all over the world and injecting nearly $17 million into the local Pyrenees and Ballarat region, and wider Victorian economy.

After a difficult few years, GAP Events is in the process of diversifying into a multi-event model with a new flagship Pyrenees Hideout event, a community focused family friendly event dedicated to everything that is great in the Pyrenees region.

Through its diversification, GAP Events aims provide year round sustainable income for the organisation, its employees and Pyrenees region.
